What the "Pro" buys you over the original S30 is image quality and field of view. Its dual-lens system pairs a 4K telephoto camera, built around a larger, more sensitive 1/1.2-inch Sony IMX585 sensor, with a 63° wide-angle camera. The telephoto frame covers about 4× the sky area of the standard S30, which is ideal for large deep-sky objects like the Andromeda Galaxy and the Orion Nebula.
Built for real skies, including ours
Denver skies aren't exactly dark. The S30 Pro is designed for that reality, with a built-in dual-band light pollution filter (OIII 30nm and H-alpha 20nm) you switch on with a tap in the app. It cuts through moonlight and city glow so emission nebulae actually show up, even from town.
Active anti-dew control gently warms the lens on cold, humid nights, and the four-element apochromatic lens with ED glass delivers round, tight stars edge to edge. Put it all together and you have a scope that holds up in the conditions most of us actually shoot in.

The S30 Pro isn't a toy you outgrow in a season. 128 GB of onboard storage lets you capture over multiple nights, and Plan mode schedules targets through the night while you sleep. For longer exposures, Equatorial Mode counters Earth's rotation (see the accessories below). It also supports the ASCOM Alpaca open protocol, so it works with third-party software such as N.I.N.A. when you're ready for more control.

Seestar S30 Pro FAQ
Do I need a tripod?
No. A tabletop tripod is included, and it's all you need for alt-azimuth imaging from a table or wall. For a more comfortable height or for Equatorial Mode, add a full-height tripod such as the Seestar TC20 or the Fluid Head with Tripod bundle. The S30 Pro fits any tripod with a standard 3/8"-16 thread.
What do I need for Equatorial Mode?
Equatorial Mode tilts the scope to match Earth's axis, allowing longer exposures without field rotation. It requires the Seestar TH10 wedge on a full-height tripod; the TH10 can't be used on the included tabletop tripod. The Fluid Head with Tripod bundle includes everything you need.
Does it work under city light pollution?
Yes, especially for emission nebulae like the Orion, Lagoon and North America Nebulae, where the built-in dual-band filter cuts through light pollution. Galaxies and star clusters don't benefit from the filter, so they look best from darker skies, but the S30 Pro still captures bright galaxies like Andromeda from the suburbs.
Seestar S30 Pro or S50 Pro?
The S30 Pro has a wider field of view, weighs less and costs less, making it the better choice for large nebulae, the Milky Way and travel. The S50 Pro's 50mm aperture gathers nearly 3× more light, so it shows smaller, fainter galaxies in more detail.
Can I look through it with an eyepiece?
No. Like all smart telescopes, the S30 Pro is a camera-based instrument. You view and save images on your phone or tablet, and the image builds up and improves the longer it collects light.
How long does the battery last?
About 6 hours of stargazing with tracking and image enhancement, or about 4 hours of video. It charges over USB-C.
Can I photograph the Sun?
Yes, with the included magnetic solar filter attached. Never point the S30 Pro at the Sun without the solar filter in place.
Is it good for beginners?
Yes. It's one of the easiest ways to start astrophotography: the app handles alignment, finding targets, tracking and image processing. As your skills grow, Plan mode, Equatorial Mode and ASCOM Alpaca support give you more control.
